How to Change a Stihl Trimmer Blade on an FS 90

The Stihl FS90 is a powerful brush cutter that comes standard with a metal cutting blade. When weeds and small brush get too high or grow on a steep bank, it is impossible to cut them down with a riding lawn mower, and the alternative is to use a handheld brush cutter. After hours of use, the metal blade will get dull, making it tougher to cut down the thicker brush. Stihl trimmer blades cannot be sharpened; they must be replaced.

Instructions

Lay the trimmer on its back with the gear head facing upward. Locate the small hole on the top of the gear head; insert the holder tool that came with the trimmer into the hole. This will keep the gears from turning during removal.

Place the wrench that came with the trimmer over the top of the nut holding down the blade. Turn the wrench clockwise until the nut is removed. Slide off the rider plate and small washer from the output shaft. Slide off the old cutting blade.

Slide on the new cutting blade, with the printing on the blade facing toward the gearbox. Slide the small washer and rider plate back over the output shaft. Reinstall the nut and tighten down with the wrench. Remove the holder tool.
