Troy-Bilt Edger Blade Installation

Troy-Bilt edgers are designed to easily provide clean edges around the perimeter of your yard, preventing grass from hanging over the end of your sidewalk and driveway. The edger has a vertical blade that rotates rapidly as you edge, digging slightly into the soil to create the edge. Because edging is typically done along hard surfaces such as asphalt and concrete, the blade will eventually become damaged by accidentally coming in contact with the surface. If the blade is chipped, broken or has become dull, remove it and install a new blade.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the edger and disconnect the spark plug wire from the side of the engine. The spark plug wire is located on the left or right side of the engine, depending on the model of your edger.

    • 2

Place one adjustable wrench behind the blade on the blade shaft to hold the shaft still.

    • 3

Remove the flange nut on the outside of the blade, using the other adjustable wrench to turn it counterclockwise.

    • 4

Pull the old blade off the drive shaft and discard.

    • 5

Insert the inside washer onto the drive shaft, if it was removed, and install the new blade.

    • 6

Replace the flange nut and tighten to at least 37 foot-pounds, but no more than 50 foot-pounds, using a torque wrench to turn clockwise.

    • 7

Spin the blade by hand and ensure it spins smoothly, then plug the spark plug back into the side of the motor.
