How to Replace the String on a GH600 Weedeater

The GH600 weedeater manufactured by Black & Decker utilizes an electric motor that you connect to a standard 110-volt outlet. It uses a single Black & Decker monofilament string wound around a bobbin. The string spins when you pull on the trigger, and the spinning string cuts the weed. The act of cutting deteriorates the string so you must feed new string by bumping the trimmer head on the ground. When you run out of string, you must replace it.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the electric weedeater from its power source by unplugging it.

    • 2

Press in on the tabs located on the side of the trimmer head cover with your fingers to release the locks on the cover. With the tabs pushed in, pull the cover off the bobbin.

    • 3

Slide the bobbin off the trimmer shaft and out of the trimmer head. Note that there is a spring located between the cover and the bobbin. The spring should stick to the bobbin. However, if it does not, it is okay. Simply place the spring off to the side for now.

    • 4

Cut a 9-foot length of monofilament string with a utility knife and slide one end of the string into the hole located in the side of the bobbin.

    • 5

Locate the arrow imprinted on the top of the bobbin and wind the string around the bobbin in the direction of the arrow. Stop when you have approximately 7 inches left unwound.

    • 6

Secure the remaining part of the string by sliding the string into the cutout located on the edge of the bobbin.

    • 7

Slide the string that hangs off the bobbin through the eyelet hole located in the cutter head as you slide the bobbin onto the cutter shaft and into the cutter head.

    • 8

Place the spring onto the bobbin if it came off and snap the cover back onto the cover head.

    • 9

Pull on the string to release it from the cut out on the side of the bobbin.
