How to String a Homelite Weedeater

Homelite weedeaters have two strings wrapped around a spool located inside the string head. A powerful gas motor rotates the shaft that the spool mounts to, and as a result the two strings spin at a very high rate of speed. Even though the string is stronger than the weeds you cut, the string does deteriorate. On the top of the string head is a bump-down button. When you run of out string, you strike the bump-down button on the ground, which feeds more string from the spool. When you run out of string on the spool, you must install new string.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Homelite weedeater upside down on the ground so you can access the string head.

    • 2

Rotate the threaded bump-down button clockwise to remove it from the string head. With the bump-down button removed, pull the spool out of the string head.

    • 3

Unwrap any string left on the head and discard it.

    • 4

Cut two pieces of 0.080-inch diameter monofilament string to 9-foot lengths with a pair of scissors.

    • 5

Slide the tip of the string into the eyelet hole located between the top and middle grooves on the spool. Wrap the string around the spool in the direction indicated on the Homelite spool. Stop when you have 6 inches left unwrapped. Snap the string into the notch on the side of the spool. Repeat the process with the second string, utilizing the eyelet hole between the lower and middle groove.

    • 6

Slide the two strings through the eyelet holes located on the string head, then slide the spool onto the string head shaft.

    • 7

Thread the bump-down button onto the string head counterclockwise.

    • 8

Pull on each string protruding from the string head to pop the string off the notches in the spool.
