A pocket chain breaker consists of two items, a punch and an anvil. The anvil has many different sized grooves for placement of varying chain sizes. The metal punch resembles a writing pen for knocking rivets from the chain links.
Place a chain link onto the anvil, following the engraved sizing for a proper fit. Using a hammer and the supplied punch, knock the connecting rivet out of the chain link into the supporting groove channel. Once the rivet releases, the chain link is loose, allowing replacement with a new link or links.
Wear safety goggles to protect eyes while hammering out a rivet. An eye injury can occur if the the rivet breaks free from the supporting groove channel.
