How to Add Oil to an Oil-injected Weedeater

Most gas-powered weed trimmers use a two-stroke engine. Two-stroke engines require you to mix oil into the gasoline for engine lubrication. This is a crude method for introducing oil into an engine. When the engine is at idle, you risk over-oiling and at higher engine speeds, you can provide too little lubrication. Direct oil injection mixes oil with the gas as the oil passes through the carburetor. This ensures a consistent flow of oil to the engine. Installing oil into direct-oil engines will differ slightly among brands but the process is relatively intuitive.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the black cap for the oil reservoir on the weed trimmer. In most cases, the cap is located in proximity to the gas cap and will have pint symbol on it to denote its use for oil.

    • 2

Press down on the cap and turn it counterclockwise to remove it.

    • 3

Pour two-stroke engine oil into the reservoir until you reach the "full line" printed on the side of the reservoir. Do not use regular engine oil. The oil container must state the oil's use is for two-stroke engine lubrication.

    • 4

Place the cap back onto the reservoir and then turn it clockwise to lock it.

    • 5

Because the motor mixes the gas and oil for you, there is no need to add oil into the gasoline.
