How to Attract Deer to Your Backyard

Deer are naturally skittish creatures that usually try to avoid contact with human beings. They will either freeze or bolt when startled and they need to be observed from a distance in most cases if you don't want to scare them away. If deer are common in your area, you may be able to attract them to your yard so you can observe them.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a deer feeder in your backyard that is both visible from a window and far enough away from the house to prevent the deer from being easily scared away. Fill the feeder with grains or fruit and include a trough of fresh water.

    • 2

Add a salt lick near your feeder as this also frequently attracts deer.

    • 3

Leave a glob of peanut butter near the feeder as well since many deer enjoy the scent and taste of it.

    • 4

Keep your yard as quiet as possible. A loud television, radio or a barking dog can all make enough noise to keep deer away.
