How to String a Troy-Bilt String Trimmer

String trimmers are yard tools that are used to trim areas of your lawn that are inaccessible to your lawn mower, such as the immediate area around a fence. Trimmers are also used to provide a clean edge along driveways, sidewalks, curbs and flower beds. One company that manufactures string trimmers is Troy-Bilt. Their trimmers work by spinning a plastic string at high speeds to cut through the grass. When the string in the trimmer runs out, you need to replace it.

Instructions

    • 1

Align the arrows on the cutting head knob on the bottom of the trimmer with the eyelets of the outer spool.

    • 2

Cut about 10 feet of .095-inch round replacement line.

    • 3

Insert the replacement line through one of the eyelets and through the cutting head knob to the other side. Feed the line until it is centered with equal amounts of line on both sides.

    • 4

Turn the cutting head knob counter-clockwise until there is about 5 inches of line sticking out on each side. The clicking sound you hear indicates that you are properly winding the line inside the cutting head knob.

    • 5

Take the trimmer outside (if you're not outside) and start it up.

    • 6

Squeeze and hold the trigger and bump the trimmer on the ground to advance the line.
