About Lightning Chippers

Lighting was a trademark taken out by the Garden Supply Company of Burlington, Vermont in 1990. It was the trademark of their 5 horsepower chipper, which had a Tecumseh horizontal crankshaft air-cooled, four-cycle gasoline powered engine.
  1. Trademark

    • Gardener's Supply Company applied the Lightning trademark to its line of gas-powered chippers and shredders. The chipper was driven by a 5-horsepower motor that was sufficient for most residential needs.

    The New Electric Version

    • The company allowed the Lightning trademark to slip in 1997 and moved towards a more eco-friendly version of the chipper. The new Electric Electric Chipper offers a 1600-watt, 14-amp motor that is much quieter than the gas-powered models.

    Chipper Safety

    • When using either the gas-powered Lightning Chipper or the newer electric version, safety is crucial. You are advised to wear safety glasses or goggles and gardening gloves at all times. Thoroughly read the owner's manual before using equipment, and keep your hands clear of the feeding funnel.
