How to Fix a Gas Blower

Your gas blower may need repair from time to time. The problem could be something as simple as a malfunctioning choke lever, or a clogged blower tube. However the issue may be something more complicated like a broken impeller. The impeller is a fan-like piece that draws in the air that blows out of the blower tube. These are simple repairs. You can do them yourself without hiring a repairman. Always refer to the user manual for a diagram of the parts for your specific brand of gas blower.

Instructions

  1. Tighten the Choke Lever

    • 1

Locate the cover to the air filter. The choke lever is beneath this cover.Remove the cover to the air filter by unscrewing the wing nut holding the cover on with your fingers. Unscrew the two screws as well with the screwdriver.

    • 2

Look for the plastic piece holding the choke lever. It is overtop the carburetor. Slide it off with one hand while holding the carburetor in place with the other hand. Don't remove the carburetor.

    • 3

Turn the plastic piece over and you will see the choke lever. Tighten the screw holding the choke lever to the piece with an Allen wrench.

    • 4

Replace the choke lever piece and the cover to the air filter in reverse order that you took them off. Ensure all the parts are securely in place.

    Replace Broken Impeller

    • 5

Unscrew the nut holding the cover to the impeller in place with a socket wrench. Remove the cover with your hands.

    • 6

Inspect the impeller. If the impeller is broken and no longer in tact, it needs to be replaced.

    • 7

Slide the broken impeller off the shaft with your hand and replace it with the new impeller. Replace the cover as it was before and tighten the nut with the wrench.

    Repair Cracked Impeller

    • 8

Unscrew the nut holding the cover to the impeller in place with a socket wrench. Remove the cover with your hands.Inspect the impeller. If it has a small crack you can repair this.

    • 9

Clean off the crack with a rag saturated with brake cleaner. Let the brake cleaner dry. Sand the edges of the crack to roughen it up.

    • 10

Fill the crack with the epoxy or fiberglass resin. You can use a putty knife to do this. Let it dry completely before proceeding. This may take a few hours depending upon the humidity.

    • 11

Sand the epoxy or resin to smooth any rough edges.Replace the impeller on the shaft and screw the cover in place with the socket wrench.

    Clean Blower Tube

    • 12

Remove the blower tube from the blower. Look inside of the blower tube. If you see dirt or debris it must be removed.

    • 13

Insert a long rod into the tube and gently move it up and down to dislodge any debris.

    • 14

Replace the blower tube. Run the gas blower to blow out any small pieces remaining.
