How to Change the String in a Troy-Bilt TB32CS

The electric Troy-Bilt TB32CS is an alternative way to trim your yard without the fumes of a gasoline trimmer. These trimmers are good for smaller size yards. There are pre-wound replacement spools available for the TB32CS when the time comes to change the line. Many people, however, opt to restring the current spool and save a couple of dollars. Changing the string in a Troy-Bilt TB32CS is a bit different than most line trimmers. Removing and installing new string does not require disassembly of the trimmer head.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Troy-Bilt TB32CS from the electrical power cord. Place the trimmer on its side so you can access the trimmer string head. Hold the outer housing and rotate the inner spool counterclockwise with your free hand. There is an arrow on the inner spool and an arrow on the housing. Rotate the inner spool until the arrows line up

    • 2

Pull the line out of the two locking on the bottom of the trimmer spool and out from the two eyelets on the side of the housing.

    • 3

Cut two 10-foot pieces of .080 trimming line from the bulk spool with a pair of scissors or utility knife. Insert one end of one line into an eyelet and continue pushing until the end comes out over the top of the inner spool.

    • 4

Insert the end into the locking hole on the same side as the eyelet. The locking hole "locks" the end in place. Pull the line on the eyelet side until the line is tight on top of the inner spool. Repeat the loading process with the second line and the remaining eyelet.

    • 5

Hold the outer spool housing and rotate the inner spool counterclockwise until there are only 4 inches of line remaining at each eyelet. If the inner spool becomes difficult to turn, pull the two lines tight at each eyelet and resume turning the inner spool.
