How to Clean the Oiler Hole on a Craftsman Chainsaw

If you run a chainsaw without bar-oil the chain on the bar will stop functioning properly. The bar will overheat and eventually start to melt. This will ruin the chain and the bar. At times, the oiler hole will clog up and prevent the flow of oil to the bar even if you have oil in your Craftsman chainsaw. To prevent this, clean the oiler hole on a regular basis. This will elongate the life of your chainsaw's accessories.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the nuts that secure the chainsaw bar to the chainsaw motor with the supplied bar wrench.

    • 2

Slide the bar back toward the motor to release tension on the chainsaw chain. Pull the chain off the bar and then remove the bar from the bolt studs on the chainsaw motor.

    • 3

Pull the cover off the oil delivery system. The cover rests behind the bar and position over the two studs that you pulled the bar from.

    • 4

Scrape the holes clean with a small pick. Take caution not to push any of the debris clogging the holes further into the tube.

    • 5

Flush the holes with mineral spirits. Place a small amount into a squirt bottle and spray the holes with the mineral spirits. This will remove small debris and solid oil contaminants. Mineral spirits dry fast and will not contaminate the oil or hurt the bar if it gets onto it.

    • 6

Wipe the groove in the bar with a rag wetted with mineral spirits. Use a toothbrush wet with mineral spirits if needed.

    • 7

Clean the oiler clover with mineral spirits and place the cover back onto the bar studs.

    • 8

Place the bar onto the studs and route the chain over the bar.

    • 9

Pull the bar out until the chain is snug and then tighten the bar nuts onto the bar studs.
