How to Replace the Chain Oiler on a Poulan

The bar on a Poulan chain saw generates an enormous amount of heat from the friction caused by sawing and cutting through thick trees and branches. The oiler on the saw intermittently releases oil which keeps the blades lubricated while cutting. Sometimes bar oilers can wear out and need to be replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a wrench to take off the saw bar nuts. Remove them and then slide off the bar, the chain and the front cover plate on the engine.

    • 2

Grip the spark-plug boot with a pair of pliers and pull the boot off the top of the plug. Use a spark-plug wrench to remove the plug. Set the plug aside. Jam the piston-stop tool into the spark-plug socket.

    • 3

Pull gently on the Poulan's recoil starter rope until it jams hard against the piston and the piston cannot move.

    • 4

Slip the clutch tool on the clutch and turn it to the right to loosen and remove it. Pull off the washers, sprocket and drum.

    • 5

Remove the two screws holding the pump's retaining screws and then pull the old pump out. Set the new pump in place and screw down the retaining screws with the screwdriver.

    • 6

Slide the washers, sprocket, drum and clutch assembly back on. Fit the clutch tool and turn the clutch to the left to tighten it.

    • 7

Replace the spark plug and the rubber spark-plug boot. Replace the chain, cover and bar.
