Instructions

    • 1

Grasp the pruner/trimmer's spark plug boot with the needle-nose pliers and pull it free from the top of the plug. Remove the plug with the spark plug wrench. Clean the bottom contact off with a wire brush if it is dirty. If the plug still will not work, replace it with a new one.

    • 2

Open the gas cap on the RY-52001 and make sure there is fuel in it. If there is not, add fuel. Also check the fuel lines running from the fuel tank to the carburetor, which is located underneath the air filter housing.

    • 3

Check the bar oil tank if the RY-52001 bar and pruner chain run hot. If the level is low, add bar oil.

    • 4

Adjust the chain tension if the motor runs but the pruner bar does not move. Begin this process by first removing the bar nut with a wrench. Slip the chain tension pin into the tension pinhole and turn it to the right to tighten it or to the left if there is too much tension in the chain. Replace the bar nut with a wrench.

Add new trimmer line if the old line has broken off. Unscrew the spool retainer at the bottom of the trimmer head. Take out the empty spool. Twist the new string around the spool, but leave about 8 inches on each end of the line. Clip these ends to the two notches on the spool and then through the eyelet on the spool retainer. Screw the spool retainer back onto the trimmer head by hand.

Press in the air filter clips and pop the air filter cover off. Remove the old filter. Clean it with warm water and detergent and dry it well, or replace it with a brand-new filter. Slip the cleaned or new filter back into place. Snap the air filter cover back into place.
