How to Change the Pull Cord on a Homelite Vac Attack II

The Vac Attack II is a combination leaf blower and vacuum made by Homelite, a major manufacturer of residential and commercial-use lawn equipment and tools. The Vac Attack II has a two-cycle engine that is started with a pull rope and recoil starter, which is mounted on the right-hand side of the blower. If the Vac Attack starter rope frays or snaps, it can be replaced with a few common tools in under 30 minutes. Replacement starter ropes can be purchased at most home improvement stores, found in the lawn tool section.

Instructions

    • 1

Take off the Vac Attack II's spark plug boot with a pair of pliers. The spark plug is located on the top, left-hand side of the blower, near the air filter cover.

    • 2

Remove the screws that hold the engine cover in place on the-right hand side of the blower and then remove the engine cover.

    • 3

Remove the starter assembly from the side of the blower's manifold.

    • 4

Push one end of the rope out of the rubber pull handle, untie it, and remove the handle. Unwind the old rope from the starter assembly.

    • 5

Slip one end of the new rope into the notch of the starter assembly and wind the rope up. Once it is tight, rotate once counterclockwise.

    • 6

Slip the other end of the Vac Attack starter rope through the rubber handle, tie a knot in it and pull it tight into the rubber groove.

    • 7

Place the starter assembly back on the side of the blower and screw the fastening bolts in.

    • 8

Replace the Homelite's engine cover, insert the screws, and fasten them tight with the screwdriver.

    • 9

Put the blower's spark plug boot back on the plug.
