How Do I Rewire the Seat on a Husqvarna?

Husqvarna makes a wide selection of lawn equipment used by both professional contractors and homeowners. These lawn tools include push mowers, edgers, chainsaws and leaf blowers. Husqvarna also makes riding mowers in a variety of different models. These riding mowers all have a single common safety feature that is wired under the driver's seat. It is referred to as the seat safety switch. The seat safety switch shuts power off to the mower's running blades if weight is removed from the seat. If the engine ever keeps running after the driver has dismounted it means the switch has gone bad and needs to be replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift the Husqvarna's engine cover and use a wrench to remove the negative and positive battery cables.

    • 2

Trace and inspect the wire by hand that runs from the positive battery cable to the safety seat switch. Feel for gouges or breaks in the wiring. If there are none, the problem lies within the safety seat switch itself. If the wire is damaged, trace it to the plastic wiring harness under the seat, snip it with a pair of wire strippers, then attach new wire to the snipped end at the base of the wiring harness. Run this wire back to the positive battery cable and attach it with the wrench.

    • 3

Locate the safety switch mounted on the bottom of the seat.

    • 4

Unscrew the switch mounted to the bottom of the seat using a screwdriver. Unplug the old switch from the plastic wiring harness. Plug the new switch into the wiring harness, then re-mount the new switch to the bottom of the seat with the screwdriver.

Attach and tighten the negative battery cable with the wrench.
