How to Change the Oil on a Ditch Witch Model C99

Ditch Witch is the manufacturer of heavy machines, like plows, sod cutters and trenchers. The Ditch Witch C-99 is an older, walk-behind trencher made by the company. It is comparable to the RT series, including the RT-10 trencher. A trencher uses a single, long blade that digs into the earth as it is pushed to form small trenches for laying pipe or cables. The Ditch Witch trencher needs its oil changed on a regular basis.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the Ditch Witch and allow it to run for about five minutes. The engine should be warm, to help drain the oil, but not overly heated.

    • 2

Place an oil drip pan under the engine's oil drain plug, at the front bottom of the machine.

    • 3

Use a wrench to remove the Ditch Witch oil plug and let the old oil drain out completely. Put the drain plug back on after the oil is drained.

    • 4

Remove the oil filter, which is situated on the face of the trencher, on the lower left hand side. Screw the new filter on.

    • 5

Open the oil fill cap and empty one quart of diesel oil, SAE15W40. Check the oil level and add enough from the second quart so that the oil is at the full level on the dipstick. Dispose of the drained oil and old filter.
