How to Attach a STX30 John Deere Mower Deck

If you uninstalled the STX30 mower deck on your John Deere lawn tractor to install a new mower drive belt or a new set of mower blades, you must take the time to install the STX30 mower deck before you can use your John Deere of its intended purpose of mowing the lawn. The process is relatively straightforward even if you are not the person who uninstalled the mower deck in the first place.

      Double-check the belt routing on the mower deck to ensure it is correct. If look on the top of the mower deck you will see a belt routing diagram. Compare the actual belt routing with the diagram. If the diagram is missing, check in the owner's manual for the proper routing.

      Slide the mower deck under the John Deere so it rests slightly forward from the center location of the tractor.

      Place the mower deck on blocks to lift it off the ground.

      Pull the belt through the belt guard mounted to the bottom of the tractor and then wrap the belt round the transmission pulley mounted under the engine.

      Slide the mower deck back until the belt is tight. Lift the torsion rods up on the mower deck and line them up with the holes in the mounting brackets welded to the underside of the tractor.

      Slide the set pins through the brackets and then lock the set pins in place with the cotter pins. If you do not have the set pins and cotter pins from when the deck was removed, you can get replacements at a John Deer dealership.

      Remove the blocks from under the mower deck.
