How to Replace the Belt on a Scotts Power Propelled 6.0 Lawn Mower

The Scotts self-propelled 6.0 push mower is a 6.0-horsepower mower capable of cutting just about any lawn due to its high power output. The high output engine makes it easy for the Scotts mower to propel itself, which makes it easier for the person guiding the mower around the yard. Even with a high horsepower engine, when the drive belt wears out, the mower will fail to propel correctly. Replace the belt with a fresh one to resolve this issue.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the belt housing cover, which mounts to the top front corner of the Scotts 6.0-horsepower mower deck. Remove the Phillip's screws that hold the cover onto the mower deck. Push in on the cover's sides and then pull the cover off the deck.

    • 2

Find the setscrew that maintains tension on the belt. The setscrew is located on the mounting bracket for the transmission pulley. Turn the setscrew counterclockwise with your screwdriver until you can remove the belt from the pulley.

    • 3

Set the Scotts 6.0-horsepower mower on its side with the air cleaner facing upwards.

    • 4

Pull the belt through the mower deck access hole and then take the belt off the drive pulley mounted between the blade and the mower deck. Work the belt around the blade and discard it.

    • 5

Place the new belt over the blade and then rest it around the drive pulley. Extend the belt though the hole in the Scotts mower deck.

    • 6

Wrap the belt around the pulley on the transmission and then tighten the setscrew until the belt is tight.

    • 7

Place the cover onto the top of the Scotts mower deck, and secure it with the screws and your screwdriver.
