How to Use a Rotary Lawn Edger

Edging your lawn along sidewalks and driveways gives it a neat, professionally maintained appearance. Edging also helps keep grass and weeds from growing under the edges of paved surfaces, causing cracks. Rotary lawn edgers use gas or electricity for power and are relatively easy to operate. Whichever model you choose, you'll be able to make quick work of edging your lawn.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the wheels of the edger on the paved surface. Make sure both wheels are on the ground while you're edging.

    • 2

Rest the edge guide against the side of the paved surface with the rotary blade in the grass.

    • 3

Start the edger and allow the blade to come up to full speed.

    • 4

Lower the blade into the grass and move the edger forward, keeping the edge guard lightly against the paved surface.

    • 5

Continue moving forward. Slow down and let the blade speed up if the edger begins to bog down.

    • 6

Run the edger along the paved surface, cutting all the grass away from the edge.
