A properly stored axe will provide years of service. For safety, the axe should not be left leaning against a wall, where someone could trip over it or knock it down. Hanging the axe gets the tool off the floor and out of the way, but the axe should be stored in such a way that the handle will not warp. This isn't an issue with a steel-handled axe, but a wooden handle hung horizontally can warp over time, especially in the high humidity of an outdoor storage shed or barn. Simple solutions are available.

- Large nails
