How to Wind a Featherlite Spool

Synonymous with the string trimmer for many, Weed Eater manufactures a variety of trimmers for home and professional use. Owners of the lightweight Featherlite series string trimmers made by Weed Eater can purchase prewound spools of replacement trimmer line. If they prefer, however, they can save a bit by buying replacement line and refilling the spool themselves.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the spark plug wire off the plug to ensure the appliance can't run.

    • 2

Push firmly on the tap button to remove the spool. Clean it well

    • 3

Cut two 12 1/2-foot lengths of 0.08-inch (2 mm) of trimmer line with a knife or scissors.

    • 4

Insert about 1/2 inch of the ends of the lines into the small holes on the inside of the spool.

    • 5

Wind the line onto the spool by hand, following the direction of the arrows on the spool. Be sure the lines are even and wound tightly.

    • 6

Push the ends of the lines into the notches on the tabs on the outside of the lower portion of the spool. Leave about 3-5 inches of line remaining from where you put the lines into the tabs.

    • 7

Insert each line through an exit hole in the hub of the Featherlite trimmer.

    • 8

Align the notches in the spool with the exit holes in the hub and insert the spool into the hub, snapping it into place. Tug the ends of the lines to release the lines from the notches.

    • 9

      Replace the spark plug wire.
