How to Connect a Transformer for Rain Bird Controllers

Rain Bird manufactures thousands of irrigation-related products for home and professional use. Founded in 1933, the company owns more than 130 patents and showcases both its technology and its commitment to "The Intelligent Use of Water." The company recommends that when you install a Rain Bird controller, you mount it within 5 feet of a 117-volt AC outlet so the wires from the external transformer will easily reach the controller.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the transformer to make sure it's not plugged in. Do not plug in the transformer until all the connections for the controller have been made, including the connection of the transformer wires to the controller.

    • 2

Strip about 1/2 inch of insulation from the transformer wires, using the wire strippers.

    • 3

Connect the transformer's green, ground wire to the ground screw on the controller, located below the lower wall mounting screw. Tighten the ground screw with the Phillips screwdriver.

    • 4

Connect the ends of the transformer wires to the two flip strip terminals on the controller. It doesn't matter which wire you connect to which terminal. The terminals are labeled "24 VAC."
