How to Landscape Around a New Barn

Landscaping around your new barn helps finish the appearance of the barn in the same way jewelry completes the outfit. Layer the height of the raised beds to help balance out the size of the barn. Adding one simple raised bed isn't going to give you the fully landscaped feel you're looking for because the barn will dwarf the plantings.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay landscape timbers in place to create a raised bed around the sides of the new barn. Build the raised bed at least four landscape timbers high. Cut them to size and nail them together.

    • 2

Fill the raised beds with dirt and plant ornamental grasses.

    • 3

Built a smaller raised bed directly in front of the first. Make this bed two landscape timbers high.

    • 4

Fill the second bed with dirt and plant seasonal flowers in this bed.

    • 5

Install solar garden lights in the flower bed. Press them into the soil, positioning them even distances from each other.

    • 6

Create a rock garden by laying large rocks in front of the raised beds. The rocks help stop animals such as cattle or horses from eating the flowers and grasses.
