After choosing the fruit, peel and remove seeds. Place the seeds on a paper towel and allow to air dry in a cool dry area with lots of sunlight. The drying process will take about a week. When completely dry, place in a plastic bag or an envelope until you are ready to plant.

Early January is a good time to plant seeds in small pots or containers inside the home. Place potting soil in pots and leave a shallow hole in the center for seeds. Put 2 or 3 seeds in each pot and cover with dirt. Sprinkle with water every few days to keep moist. When plants begin to grow, you will want to remove all but one in each pot.

The time to transplant outside in the ground is March or early April, after the threat of a freeze is over. Dig a hole to plant the sapling in, not too deep, and fill in hole with topsoil. Keep the plant watered every few days, and remove any grass or weeds around it. You will want to place a can that has been opened on both ends over the plant until it is large enough to stake.
