How to Apply Scotts Turf Builder

Rampant weeds, brown patches and bare areas ruin the appearance of your lawn and hurt your home's curb appeal. However, if you know how to buy and apply Scotts Turf Builder, you'll soon bid farewell to a scruffy yard. These seed blends contain combinations of seed, mulch, pit ash and fertilizer, which work together to keep the grass seed moist and well fed through germination. The Scotts Turf Builder line includes blends for different purposes, such as weed killing and heat tolerance or for certain geographical areas. Choose the seed variety that best fits your lawn care needs.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove dead grass from the area to be planted.

    • 2

Break up the top one to three inches of soil with your shovel blade, using a twisting motion.

    • 3

Sprinkle Scotts Turf Builder liberally over the area and rake the seed so it is evenly spread to about 1/8-inch thickness.

    • 4

Water the seeded area thoroughly. Re-water the area when the soil lightens from drying, generally one or two times per day.

    • 5

Check the seeded area when grass has grown out to about 1/2-inch tall. Spread additional seed in sparse areas to about 1/6-inch thickness.

    • 6

Keep the area free of foot and pet traffic until grass is thick and well established.
