Water the sod thoroughly immediately after it is laid down. Keep the sod wet for the first couple of weeks so the roots can establish themselves. If you see puddles forming, stop watering until they disappear. If your sod is too dry, it will die and you will lose your investment.
Begin spacing out your watering times at the end of the second week. Water once a week after that point, and only when needed once the roots are established.
Mow the lawn two weeks after installation, making sure the sod is dry enough. After that, mowing frequency depends on the weather in the area, but do not let it grow past three inches. Allow the clippings to stay on top of the lawn for soil nutrients.
Fertilize the sod six weeks after installation. Use a complete fertilizer with phosphate, nitrogen and potash for feed. Repeat this process every six weeks in the growing season.
