What Kind of Grass Seed Is Barenbrug?

Headquartered in the Netherlands, Barenbrug is a family business with over 100 years of experience producing grass and forage seeds. Much of the U.S. production focuses on seed for turf used in golf courses but Barenbrug also produces seed mixes for home use.
  1. U.S. Headquarters

    • Barenbrug USA, headquartered in Tangent, Oregon, produces grass seed including annual and perennial ryegrass, bent grass, fine and tall fescue, Bermuda grass and Kentucky bluegrass. Barenbrug produces several specialized seed combinations for special purpose turf.

    Water Saver Pro

    • This tall fescue blend thrives in low-maintenance areas such as golf course roughs. It features good disease resistance and high drought tolerance. It's sold with Barenbrug's "Yellow Jacket coating," which holds moisture around the grass seed during germination.

    Turf Saver

    • Barenbrug's turf fescue blend combines regular tall fescues with Rhizomatous Tall Fescue, designed for low-maintenance areas such as golf course roughs.

    Panama

    • A quality turf used for golf fairways and tees, Panama provides a higher quality turf than Bermuda grass. This is a dark green grass with excellent drought tolerance; it greens up early in the spring and is frost tolerant.

    Forage Grasses

    • Barenbrug produces seed mixtures for forage for livestock and wildlife.

Barenbrug also produces specialty seed mixes for livestock forage. Horsemaster, for example, is a seed mixture designed for horse pastures; it includes timothy, ryegrass and orchard grass. Tecomate Seed, a division of Barenbrug, produces wildlife seed mixtures.

    Forage Crops

    • Red and white clover, alfalfa and vetch are among the other varieties in Barenbrug's seed production.
