Pile sand into a large dome to begin building your cement planter mold. Push down on it with the hand shovel and form it into the shape you prefer. Add a little bit of water to help the sand stick and mold more easily.
Mix three parts Portland cement, two parts white sand, and one part water in a large bucket to make the cement. Add small amounts of water as necessary, but do not use too much or the mix will be too loose.
Dip the cup into the cement mix, and gently pour it into the mold. Using your hands, lightly press the cement along the walls of the sand mold. Once it hardens, you will have a hollow planter with a base and a top opening.
Cover the wet cement with a plastic tarp. Allow it to cure for a few days.
Pull the plastic tarp off. Hose the mold down to remove the sand. This will leave only the hardened cement planter.
