How to Make a Concrete Pot

Spring and summer are the seasons when your garden is in full bloom. You may want to decorate the yard and garden with beautiful flower and plant arrangements, so you will need planting pots. Rather than buying several planting pots and spending more money than necessary, you can purchase a few materials to make the pots yourself. If you make the pots out of concrete, they will be durable and could last through many growing seasons.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on the gloves and safety goggles.

    • 2

Create the concrete pot mold. Pour a pile of sand into a dome shape. Pour about 1/4 cup of water onto the sand so it can stick and be easily molded. Create an open space in the center of the sand dome and form it into the preferred shape of the finished pot.

    • 3

Make the concrete compound. Combine 3 parts Portland cement, 2 parts sand and 1 part water in a bucket, using a dowel to stir. Use less water to begin with and then add more water as needed.

    • 4

Place the cup into the concrete mix and use it for easy pouring.

    • 5

Pour the mix into the sand mold, and then begin to gently press the concrete against the walls. The pot needs to be hollow and not full of concrete, so press the mix into the shape of an open pot.

    • 6

Place the tarp over the mold. Let it cure for a few days, and then take the tarp off so you can hose the pot down and remove the loose sand. The concrete pot will be the only thing left.
