Castlewellan Leyland cypress (Cupressocyparis leylandii ‘Castlewellan’) is a narrow, straight evergreen also referred to as golden Leyland cypress. The tree is sturdy in growth with dense branches and maintains its growth with little or no pruning. The new growth on tree emerges in sprays of golden-yellow. The foliage changes color to shades of bronze during winter. The tree is low maintenance and grows best in areas of full sun. Castlewellan reaches a mature height of 25 to 40 feet with an 8- to 10-foot spread. The tree is also deer resistant and does not produce any flowers.

The tree has dense growth and is popularly used as an ornamental or specimen tree. Naylor’s blue is evergreen and has a rapid growth rate, reaching a mature height of 30 to 40 feet with a 10- to 15-foot spread. The tree is generally easy to care for but requires regular watering especially during the first growing season as this helps develop a stronger root system. Naylor’s blue does not produce any flowers and is deer resistant.
