While some types of grass germinate in as little as five days, Kentucky bluegrass takes two to three weeks. According to All About Lawns, it's the tortoise of the grass world.
Prepare the soil before planting. Till the top few inches to loosen it. Spread 2 to 3 pounds of seed for 1,000 square feet of lawn area. Kentucky bluegrass can be sown all year long, but the best times are spring or fall.
Keep the soil moist to speed up the germination process. Give Kentucky bluegrass seed light, frequent waterings -- two to three times daily -- for the first two weeks. Once the seed germinates, reduce watering.
