Plant sod as soon as possible after it is delivered. If you can't, store it in a cool, shady spot and give it water regularly to keep it moist. Sod will die in about 48 hours if left on a pallet in the summer.
Lay down sod any time of year in most of Florida, as the warm temperatures make this possible. If you live in the most northern part of the state, however, plant sod in late summer to early fall, so the roots have time to establish before the freezing winter weather sets in.
Water the sod immediately to ensure it grows successfully. Saturate the roots the first time, and then water one to two times a day for the first week.
