How Long Does it Take for Fescue to Germinate?

Several species encompass fescue grasses. They grow well in many climates, preferring the cooler, more temperature parts of the world. Once the lawn is seeded, it takes as little as a week for the fescue to germinate.
  1. Establishment

    • Sow fescue grass seed in the fall. While some spring planting may lead to successful germination, some seeds can be lost to summer heat or drought. At higher elevations, plant the seeds in the spring or summer.

    Recommendation

    • Disperse 5 to 7 lbs. of seed for every 1,000 square feet. Use a mechanical spreader, passing over the yard twice, for the most even coverage.

    Time Frame

    • Fescue grass will take as little as seven days to germinate, but it can take as many as 21 days for maximum germination. Keep the seedbed moist for best results.
