States to Grow Peach Trees

Peach trees are a joy to grow. Not only do they offer shade and aesthetic value to your landscape, they also provide you with delicious peaches. Peach trees grow in a rather limited area, requiring a specific climate. They cannot stand too much cold, but do have a certain chilling requirement in order to blossom.
  1. Georgia

    • When people think peaches and the U.S., Georgia is the first state to come to mind. Peaches are the official fruit of Georgia. The climate is ideal for growing the fruit, and peach cultivation is a big part of the state's economy. The Central Region and the Southern Region are the two largest commercial peach production zones in Georgia.

    South Carolina

    • South Carolina is the second biggest producer of peaches in the United States. With a similar climate to Georgia, growing conditions are advantageous for fruit production. It is neither too hot nor too cold, and the fruit does well in the state. They are grown commercially, and can also be found growing in the wild. They are a favorite tree for homeowners in South Carolina to plant in their yards.

    California

    • California is the largest producer of peaches in the United States. According to Cornell University, the state is responsible for approximately 65 percent of the country's total peach crop. They are grown specifically in the Northern Region, as well as in the San Joaquin Valley.
