Prepare the yard before planting grass. Loosen the soil 4- to 6-inches deep to assist in root spread and development. Rake the areas until leveled and pick up the debris.
Plant cool-season grass seeds at the beginning of fall or spring avoiding cold, frost and summer heat. Sow warm-season grass seed at the beginning of summer.
