Generally, pallet sizes are 4-by-4 feet. Each pallet holds 450 square feet or 50 square yards of sod. Each pallet holds 171 pieces of sod measuring 16 inches wide by 24 inches long and 1 inch thick.
A pallet of sod will weigh about 2,000 to 2,500 lbs. or 1 to 1-1/2 tons. One piece of sod weights approximately 14 to 15 lbs.
One pallet of sod can be hauled with a ¾-ton pickup truck. Two pallets can be hauled on a 16-foot trailer with two axles. For a trailer with one axle, only one pallet can be hauled.
