Ornamental Grass Designs

Ornamental grasses offer a variety of colors, textures and heights. When planning the look of the landscape, you are likely to find an area that benefits from including ornamental grass in the design.
  1. Colors

    • Ornamental grasses offer a range of silvery hues, as well as blue, red, purple and those with more than one color. Often ornamental grasses take on autumn colors in the fall, such as bronzes, golds and dark reds. Plant these with other autumn performers for a harvest time display. Some grasses change colors with maturity. Coordinate with similar or contrasting colors of other plantings.

    Textures

    • Some ornamental grasses form clumps of colorful blades, while others spread. Consider the size and texture of fully grown grasses when incorporating into the landscape design.

    Heights

    • Plantings of ornamental grasses can disguise or hide unattractive aspects of the home or property. Some may screen views or hold soil which may tend to erode. Shorter grasses may line driveways and walks.
