How to Use Dog Feces as Manure

Some local governments have laws that require dog owners to immediately remove their pet's feces from public areas, according to the website Dog Law. If you wish to use your dog's feces productively instead of throwing it in a landfill, compost the feces to turn it to manure. Though this manure is safe to use on non-edible plants, it should not be used in soil for plants you intend to eat. Even composted manure can be dangerous to your health if it is absorbed by your plants.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the dog feces in a compost bin.

    • 2

Fill the compost bin with sawdust at a ratio of one part sawdust to two parts dog feces. Mix the feces and sawdust using a long utensil such as a stick or wooden spoon. Do not use this utensil for any purpose other than mixing compost.

    • 3

Allow the compost to cook at a temperature of 140 degrees of higher. Determine the temperature using a long thermometer. The compost pile should automatically reach this temperature if you keep it in an appropriate compost bin.

    • 4

Compost the mixture for four to eight weeks.

    • 5

Remove the lid from the compost bin and place the manure along the roots of your non-edible garden plants.
