Ideas for Propane Patio Heaters

Propane heaters set up quickly and often start with just the push of a button. The heaters release a low level of heat that warms the surrounding area. Patio heaters of this type are typically made from stainless steel or another durable material that can withstand exposure to the elements. Propane patio heaters can create a comfortable entertaining area or living space outside.
  1. Hanging Heaters

    • For a patio with a roof or a roof overhang, consider a hanging heater. Decorative heaters of this type provide heat from above. To keep your patio warm and toasty, use multiple heaters around the space. You could also hang heaters from decorative plant hangers in the ground next to the patio.

    Open Heaters

    • Open heaters are similar to fire pits, except that the heater runs on propane fuel. Look for heaters that sit low to the ground and build your entertaining area around it. A metal top protects the fuel source and allows the heat to slowly escape from the inside. You can even use this type of heater for desserts such as s'mores. It will take longer to roast the marshmallows because you can't reach the direct heat. Keep baskets nearby and stock each basket with napkins, paper plates, roasting sticks and other utensils and cooking supplies.

    Tabletop Heaters

    • For a touch of class, add a tabletop heater to your patio space. Simply set the heater in the center of your outdoor table. When the temperatures are low, use the heater to warm up the surrounding space. During warmer periods, use the heater as a decorative element on the patio. You will also find similar heaters known as stand heaters that provide warmth without taking up table space.

    Umbrella Heaters

    • An umbrella heater is an outdoor patio heater designed for use with a patio umbrella. The heater attaches directly to the underside of the umbrella and the pole that holds it in place. The heaters release a small amount of heat that keeps the warm air from melting or otherwise damaging the umbrella. Use a propane heater of this type to keep the heater from overwhelming the space and ruining your design scheme. Keep in mind that it will heat only the immediate area and those standing on the edges of the patio may not feel any heat.
