How to Make a Bird Feeder-Wreath

Bird feeders come in all shapes and sizes and make ornamental and practical additions to your garden or patio. During the winter months, food may be scarce for birds, and birdseed placed in the area will attract many different species. As an alternative to the hanging tray-style bird feeder or house, a bird feeder-wreath can be made of natural materials that are safe for birds.

Things You'll Need

  • Vine wreath
  • 10-inch piece of floral wire
  • Packet of clear gelatin
  • Large bowl
  • Spoon
  • Birdseed, 1 to 2 quarts
  • Craft or floral straw
  • Floral wire, 5-inch piece

Instructions

    • 1

Stick the ends of the floral wire through the back of the vine wreath. Leave the ends sticking out from the front of the wreath.

    • 2

Prepare the clear gelatin according to the package instructions. Pour into a large bowl.

    • 3

Pour the birdseed into the gelatin. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes. The birdseed and gelatin mixture will thicken as it stands.

    • 4

Gather a handful of mixture and spread it onto the vine wreath. The birdseed mixture should be thick enough to mold to the wreath. It will harden as it dries. Press some of the birdseed into the spaces between vines.

    • 5

Tie the craft or floral straw into a bow. Attach the bow to the front of the wreath with the floral wire. Run a small piece of floral wire to the back of the wreath for hanging.
