Wishing Well Crafts

The theme of the wishing well can add whimsy to the office, home or a wedding event. Wishing wells can be used in many applications--as decorative items or functional accessories. They may be crafted from a variety of material, from poster board to found objects.
  1. Thimble

    • The basic shape of a wishing well is a bowl-shape structure. If you want a small version of a wishing well for decorating a dollhouse, use a thimble for the base. Paint the outside of the thimble with white paint. Attach two toothpicks vertically on either side of the inside of the thimble using hot glue, so that the toothpicks extend above the edge of the thimble. Cut a third toothpick to stretch between the two toothpicks and hot-glue it in place. Apply glue to the ends of the upright toothpicks and place the third toothpick horizontally to create a crossbar. Tie a piece of string to the crossbar you just attached and allow it to dangle inside the thimble.

    Craft Sticks

    • Another option is to make a desktop wishing well to use as a pencil holder. Clean the inside of a soup can. Use hot glue to attach craft sticks vertically to the outside of the can. Once the can is covered, cut a craft stick in half across the width. Apply hot glue to the cut end and press one half against the top edge of the can on either side. Cut a second craft stick to fit across the top of the two vertical craft sticks extending from the top of the can. Hot-glue the cut stick in place. Decorate the wishing well with markers, paint or leave it natural. Another option is to attach small stones to the outside of the can instead of craft sticks to create a stone wishing well. Place pens and pencils in the wishing well can.

    Basket

    • Make a wishing well to collect cards at a wedding or shower. Choose a basket in any size and shape to fit your event's needs; it should have a single handle that goes above the center of the basket. Use hot glue to attach stones of different colors and sizes to the side of the basket, covering it to look like a stone wishing well. If desired, spray-paint the stones to match the wedding's color scheme. Tie a piece of string around the handle of a smaller basket or small bucket. Wrap the string around the larger basket's handle.

    Poster Board

    • Make a simple wishing well out of poster board. Hot-glue square pieces together to form the base of the well. Glue thin rectangular pieces to the inside of the square for the supports. Add another thin piece for the crossbar. Attach a rectangle folded in half to create the roof. Use colored markers to decorate the wishing well with stones and wood slats.
