How to Decorate a Lamp Post

Lamp posts seem to beg for decoration. They are ideal for climbing vines and do not require a holiday for adornment. If you have been wanting to decorate your lamp post but fear that your thumb is not green enough to pull it off, consider a weather- and season-proof alternative that would keep your lamp post bright and vibrant all year round.

Things You'll Need

  • Evergreen wreath (as little or as much decoration as you like)
  • Artificial evergreen garland
  • Decorative garden stake or rock
  • Twine

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the lamp post with the evergreen garland. Start at the top at the crosspiece and loop the garland around several times so that it does not slide. Then wind it down the lamp post. You can put the loops close together so that your entire post looks like it is evergreen, or leave some of the metal showing through.

Use the decorate garden stake or rock to hold the bottom of the garland and any extra in place. You can wrap any excess around the bottom of the lamp post. Then drive the stake through the garland so that it will remain on the ground.

    • 3

Wrap the twine around the top crosspiece in an X. This will hold the top of the garland in place.

Hang the wreath on the crosspiece. Wreaths are ideal decorations for lamp posts because you can add ribbons, lights or other holiday decor and remove them once the season is over. The wreath should hang over both short pieces of the cross with the post extending up through and behind the wreath.
