How to assemble a pedestal bird house

  Put the drill bit in the electric drill. Set the turned newel post on end on a flat work surface. Set one large bracket against a flat face of the newel post. Make sure the flat of the bracket sits perfectly flat on the work surface.

  Drill a hole through the top of the bracket into the newel post. Insert a screw and turn the screw into the wood. Drill a second hole towards the bottom of the bracket and attach to newel post with wood screw.

  Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for the remaining three faces of the turned newel post.

  Set the 8 x 8 inch wood plaque on the top of the newel post. Center it on the top of the newel post. Drill a hole down through the top of the wood plaque into the post. Attach the plaque to newel post with a wood screw. Drill two more holes and insert screws.

  Take one of the smaller decorative brackets and attach it so one strip is resting against the under side of the wood plaque and the other is resting against one face of the newel post. Attach as in Steps 1 and 2. Attach the second bracket directly opposite of the first one.

  Set the wood bird house on top of the wood plaque. Drill up through the bottom of the plaque and into the base of the birdhouse. Insert screw and twist in. Repeat 3 more times.

  Paint the bird house and pedestal with white paint. Let it dry overnight and apply a second coat.
