Choose the color and style for your garden flag fabric. Since the flag will be used outdoors, it is best to use canvas or any other weather-resistant fabric because of its durability.
Measure the fabric. A 15-inch by 20-inch flag is a good size, as it can be seen from the end of the driveway and is not so large that it will get wrapped up in itself in the wind.
Hand stitch all four edges of the fabric with your needle and thread.
Flip the fabric over so the back of the flag is facing up. On the right side, place the rod onto the fabric, and pull the fabric over until the rod is covered. Make sure there is at least a half inch of extra fabric hanging over the rod.
A long stick can even be used for your garden flag for a more rustic, homey feel.
Hand stitch the small pocket for the dowel rod. Use the hot glue gun to secure the rod once you place it inside of the pocket.
Spray on the fabric protector once the flag is complete. This will provide even more protection from the elements for your garden flag.
