Search around your house for any old forks not being used. They do not all have to be the same size. Also be sure to find a colander or any other bowl or dish that has scalloped edges. Using a dish with holes as a base makes it a lot easier for you to hang the forks without going through extra trouble to cut out the holes.
Drill a small hole at the tip of each fork's handle. Put your safety glasses on first. When you use the drill, you need to make sure your eyes are protected so metal shards do not fly into your eye.
Place the handle on top of the piece of wood, and then drill the hole. The wood will act as a catch for the drill. That way, you do not drill into the surface you are using and damage it.
Measure out different lengths for the forks to hang. When the forks are hung at different intervals by the fishing line, they will clang together when the wind blows, and the sounds will vary depending on how they hit each other.
Cut the fishing line down to the sizes you have chosen.
Flatten each fork with your mallet.
Slip the fishing line through the fork's hole and tie a small knot at the end. Snip off any line that visibly hangs from the knot. Hot glue the area that you have knotted.
Thread the lines through various holes in the colander or dish you have chosen and tie them off. Hot glue those knots as well for extra security.
Hang the ornament in an area that typically gets a good breeze.
