Lay landscape fabric down the length and width that you want your walkway to be. It is okay if the fabric overlaps. Secure the fabric with landscape fabric stakes. This will prevent the fabric from moving and altering your walkway's course.
Create a border for your walkway using the railroad ties. Use a table saw to shorten the ties if necessary.
Place railroad ties horizontally between the walkway's border every 5 feet. Cut the ties to fit using a table saw. The ties horizontal ties help create a more structurally sound walkway and give texture and an added design element to your walkway.
Fill all open areas between the railroad ties with pea gravel. You can choose specific colors of gravel depending on your tastes. Once the gravel is in place, your walkway is ready for use.
