Yard Ornament Ideas

Decorating your yard is more than just landscaping with shrubbery, trees and flowers. Your lawn can also display a bit of your personality and style. You can use yard ornaments to create the look you desire. You should familiarize yourself with some inventive ideas for lawn decor.
  1. Old Farm Equipment

    • For a country themed yard, purchase or salvage some broken-down antique farm equipment. Use old tractors, mowers, pickers and other types of farm machinery to decorate your yard. Paint the machinery, or leave it rusty for a more artistic look. Plant flowers around the equipment to tie it in with the rest of the yard. Consider laying a few tractor tires around the equipment and grow flower beds or trees inside of them. A scarecrow can be propped onto the tractor as is he were riding it in your front lawn. Whichever way you decide to decorate the machinery, it will add a decidedly country theme to your yard.

    Bird Accommodations

    • Birds themselves can add quite a bit of beauty and interest to your yard. To attract birds, you can use decorative bird accommodations as yard ornaments. Choose decorative bird-feeders and birdbaths to add to your yard. Also add some birdhouses hanging from posts, fences or trees in your yard. Consider purchasing unfinished birdhouses and painting them yourself. You can then choose your own colors and finish style before hanging them in your yard. Do the same with your birdbaths. Though white or natural stone are the most common finishes on birdbaths, that does not mean you have to use one in those colors. Paint your own birdbath that will fit your style and yard design. Bird feeders can purchased in many different styles, and you are bound to find one that you will love.

    Fence Sections

    • Use sections of picket fencing to highlight flowerbeds, shrubbery and even a sitting area with a bench. Angle two short sections of fence so that they provide a two-sided corner behind a flower bed, bench, shrub, or small tree. Hang decorative wood or tin signs from the fencing to add some more personality to the space. Leave the wood natural or paint it any color you like.
