Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bucket with warm water and add a garden disinfectant according to the instructions on the bottle.

    • 2

Use a scrub brush and the disinfectant to thoroughly wash your landscaping rocks. Any dirt, mud or debris on your rocks can interfere with your painting.

    • 3

Allow the rocks to dry or dry them with a clean cloth before continuing.

    • 4

Select several different acrylic paint colors. Browns, blacks, grays and other neutral colors are typical for landscaping rocks, but brightly colored rocks or those with words painted on them can add originality to your landscaping design.

    • 5

Paint the rocks. Work in an outdoor or well-ventilated area where paint spills will not be a problem. Blend the colors together for a realistic looking rock if you decide to use neutrally-colored landscaping rocks.

    • 6

Allow the paint to dry for 24 to 48 hours.

    • 7

Spray clear matte or glossy sealant on your rocks to protect the paint color. Apply 3 coats of sealant, allowing it to dry for 2 hours between each coat.
