Use a sponge to clean out the bottle thoroughly.

Fill a sink with hot water and add in 1 tsp. of dish soap. Submerge your bottle into the soapy water. Insert a bottle brush or sponge into the bottle and clean out the bottle thoroughly. Rinse out the bottle with clean water and place it onto a drying rack or towel to dry completely.

Paint the entire outside of the bottle.

Paint the outside of the bottle in colorful designs. In order to make sure that the birds will not become overheated, it is important to cover the entire outside of the bottle with paint. Use an outdoor latex paint that will not wash off if rain falls on the bottle. You can paint a scenery on the bottle, make it look like stained glass or simply paint the bottle in an abstract pattern. Allow the bottle to dry completely.

Attach twine to the bottle, then hang.

Cut two pieces of twine around 16 inches in length. Tie one of the pieces of twine around the fluted end of the bottle, and tie the other piece of twine around the base of the bottle. Hang the glass bottle birdhouse onto a tree by tying the loose ends of the twine onto the branches. Before long, small birds will be setting up their nests inside the bottle.
